Zhang Yansheng is currently Secretary-general, researcher, and Ph.D. supervisor of the Academic Committee of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). He is also a part-time professor at Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Central University of Finance and Economics; Deputy Director of Academic Committee of Wuhan University Institute of International Studies; and receiver of special government allowance from the State Council. In 1984, he graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and was awarded Master Degree in Economics; from 1986 to 1988, he studied at School of Economics of the University of Colorado and Department of Economics of the University of Toronto and later worked at World Bank EDI; from 1984 to 1996, he lectured at Department of Economic Management and Department of Finance of Central University of Finance and Economics as an advisory professor for postgraduate students in international finance. From 1996 to 2011, he worked at the Institute of Foreign Economy of the National Development and Reform Commission as Head of Research Office, Deputy Director and Director, researcher, and Ph.D. supervisor in international economics. In 2012, he is appointed Secretary-general of Academic Committee of the National Development and Reform Commission. He is mainly engaged in fields of international finance and international trade. He has presided over and participated in key research projects of the national social sciences for “Seventh Five- Year ” and “Eighth Five-Year” plan, and key research projects for three national economy and social development planning which included “Tenth Five-Year Plan” , “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” and “Twelfth Five-Year Plan.” He has published over 20 Chinese and English books (including co-authored books), and more than 300 academic dissertations. He has been awarded “Sun Yefang Prize of Economics Publication”, first prize of Beijing Municipal Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Works, 1977-1991 Outstanding Works Prize of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), first prize of Outstanding Research Achievement of National Development and Reform Commission (Science and Technology Progress Award), and China Development and Research Prize; he also presided over the 9th collective study session of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on November 29, 2008.
