QU Xing

Dr. Qu Xing is now the President of China Institute of International Studies, President of China Arms Control and Disarmament Association and Professor of China Foreign Affairs University.

 

Dr. Qu graduated from Beijing Foreign Studies University in 1982 and obtained his B.A. In 1985, he graduated from China Foreign Affairs University, getting a M.A. in history. He received his doctorate in political science from the Paris Institute of Political Studies in 1992. He was the Director of the Teaching and Research Section of China’s foreign relations of the China Foreign Affairs University in 1993, then Deputy Dean of the Department of Diplomacy in 1994, Assistant to the President of the University in 1995, and Vice President of the University in 1999. He was also a professor and doctoral supervisor therein. In 2006, he served as Minister in Chinese Embassy in France. From January 2010, he serves as the President of China Institute of International Studies.

 

He is also the member of the Advisory Committee on Foreign Policy of Chinese Foreign Ministry, China Public Diplomacy Association, Vice Chairman of China National Association for International Studies, Vice Chairman of China Foundation for International Studies and Academic Exchanges, Vice Chairman of Chinese Association for American Studies, Director of the China Center for SCO Studies, Chairman of Chinese Association for French Studies, Special Commentator of the China Central Television and adjunct professor of Chinese Academy of Governance.

 

Dr. Qu has published extensively on Chinese diplomacy and international relations, including Contemporary Chinese Diplomacy (2012), Years of Suspicion: Sino-French Relations from 1949 to 1955 (2003), New Dimensions of China’s Diplomacy (1999), 50 years of China’s Diplomacy (2000), and over 100 academic papers and media articles including The UN Charter, the Responsibility to Protect, and the Syria Issue, The Feasibility of the Peace Community in Northeast AsiaObstacles and Solutions, Jointly Coping with the Unavoidable Nuclear Security Challenges”, “Classical Public Diplomacy and Chinese Characteristics”, “China’s National Image in International Media”, “The Current World Situation Reveals Deep Structural Contradictions in the Western Society”, “The Formation Mechanism and Interest Incentive of China’s National Image in Western Media”, “China will remain a developing country in a long period of time”, “China’s Foreign Policy Adjustment in the early 1980s”, “China’s Foreign Policy after the Drastic Change of the East European Countries and the Collapse of the Soviet Union”, “Adhering to the Foreign Policy Principle of Keeping a Low Profile and Making Positive Contributions”, “Premier Zhou Enlai’s Diplomacy in the Geneva Conference of 1954”, “The Korean War and Chinese Diplomatic Maneuver”.
